Ed Kim, M.D., M.B.A., is the physician-in-chief for City of Hope’s Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center and vice-physician-in-chief for the City of Hope national network. A world-renowned expert in lung cancer and thoracic oncology, Dr. Kim serves in a pivotal leadership position that is charged with expanding access to advanced care—including clinical trials—for patients across Southern California, leading strategic clinical initiatives focusing on equity in cancer care and fostering multidisciplinary research collaborations.
Recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a “top doctor,” Dr. Kim is internationally known for his clinical work and his commitment to translating leading-edge discoveries into new cancer therapies that improve patient outcomes. His research focus is in molecular prognostication for lung, head and neck cancers, and he has published more than 200 publications in leading journals such as The Lancet, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Cancer Discovery and Nature Medicine. He has served as principal or co-principal investigator on numerous high-impact clinical trials and translational research projects.
Prior to joining City of Hope, Dr. Kim held multiple senior leadership positions at Levine Cancer Institute, including Chair of Solid Tumor Oncology, Medical Director of the Clinical Trials Office, and the Donald S. Kim Distinguished Chair for Cancer Research. He also held academic appointments at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a tenured associate professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He also earned an M.B.A. at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School in Chapel Hill.
